Noodling Is Fossicking

Every one in the opal mining industry has been noodling at some time. This is the term used for people who look for opal in the miners discarded opal dirt. Depending on the time of year and how lucky you are, you could make wages of maybe do much better.

To be a successful fossicker you need a lot of patience, good eye sight and move a lot of dirt carefully.

At least every 3 weeks I hear of a some one finding opal worth any thing from $2,000 to $10,000. I am sure there would be opal found that no one hears about.

Want to go fossicking? Take a hat, sunscreen, gloves, spade and a bag to put your potch and colour in. You will need to spend at least 6 hrs/day moving dirt.

Look for a pile of dirt that has potch in it and start looking.

What's that noise? Yes, Its that old grey Bedford truck that I got a small green gem and a piece of crystal out of yesterday. Quick!!!!! Gotta get over there.
