A Bogger Is The Underground Dirt Mover
The bogger is the underground dirt mover. It loads itself and transports the dirt from the
face back to the shaft where it is dumped into the hoist bucket and it is hauled to the
surface and dumped into the truck.
Most of these machines are driven by hydraulics. They are rubber tyred and are skid
steer operation.
The power supply can be 240 volts or 415 volts. Most have the controls mounted on
the machine, but some are remote controlled with joystick steering and bucket
operation. The control pad is 24 volts for safety.
The capacities range from 150 litres to 550 litres, which is about half a ton. The hoist
bucket is of the same capacity.
This is our dirt mover, with Sam at the controls. The temperature gets fairly hot down
here with 500-watt lights and the hydraulic equipment all working hard.

The hoist bucket goes below the floor level for ease of loading.
