Trust is something one has to earn, so you need to know something about Sam and I. I wont bore you with family photos but I will try to tell you something about-us.

I have been mining for black opal around Lightning Ridge, intermittently since 1996.

My son, Sam, joined me in 2000 when I bought serious underground mining equipment, a tip truck and loader, then a drilling rig in 2002.

Previous to that I worked in gold and nickel mines at Kalgoorlie in Western Australia, and coalmines in the Hunter Valley north of Sydney. I have been mining since I was 17 years old. I am 47 now, so I guess I'm a miner.

The attraction for me to come to Lightning Ridge, of course, was the thought of making my fortune, by finding those beautiful black opal gems. But like every person that comes here with that in mind, I soon realised this was not going to happen with out a lot of sweat, a lot of patience, a lot of luck and a lot of money.

So the life style here very soon becomes the second biggest attraction. We are members of the Lightning Ridge Miners Association

(LRMA) and the Grawin, Glengary and Sheepyard Miners Association. (GGSMA)

Our company is Opalz Pty Ltd, ACN 102 647 914. We are not a big opal mining company, but we do supply value for money opal and promise to treat your credit card and email details with utmost respect and confidentiality.
