Beers n mates The-Hilton
The-Hilton is certainly not like the ritzy Hiltons of major cities around the world. This Hilton is constructed from sheets of tin and cypress pine.
The accommodation is backpacker style with a continental breakfast, all for $10/night.
This out back Australian pub is actually a bottle shop. It's where opal miners gather for a few cold beers and a yarn. Opal buyers quite often turn up there looking for opal to buy.
There are no gambling machines but there is a quality pool table, which hosts a competition Friday nights.
There is no air conditioning for summer but there are two big wood fires for the winter nights.
Monday night is backpacker night when Aldo's Outback Tours stops for the night. These tourists always receive a warm and friendly welcome. It is also an opportunity for the locals to share their mining tales with people from around the world. Most of the miners that frequent the Hilton are young at heart and enjoy each other's company.
