Beautiful 12.9ct black opal carvingItem No. CV7 This is a typical commercial 12.9ct-black-opal-carving. It is a rather flat double-sided stone with attractive grooves carved into it to enhance the different colour sections. The colours range from a bright green with a hint of orange through to a bright blue. There are seams of black potch on both sides of the stone, which separate the colours. This is a piece of vertical seam opal. The colours bars were formed as the silica-laden waters ran down through the sandstone and were deposited in cavities in the opal clay. The potch bars were laid down between the colours. There is a very small harlequin pattern visible, which changes to pin fire as it merges to blue. The photos shows boths sides of this double sided stone.
